Main image: James Bond is a very famous movie franchise which dates back to 1953. the main image holds the current bond as well as the villain, they are ordered in importance, bond is the biggest because he's the protagonist of the film, the second largest being the villain.

Genre: from the main image we can see a car on fire and people with guns, this connotes this is an action film.

colour palette: the colours of dark blues, greys and oranges connote an action film due to the intense colouring.

Typography: this typography is more of a bold font, could connote prison text possibly.

Narrative: Action, its modern, theres explosions, Bond looks relaxed and calm

Release date: around April, easter holiday with family, delayed a year and a half.

Logo: 007, he's bond this is a recurring logo from the early fifty's.

Representation: He's older, wiser, everyone thats younger is in his shadow like their upcoming, not on his level yet.

  1. referring to other existing texts.
  2. the story.
  3. the setting, props and any other accessories.
  4. the way a text looks.
  5. the type of media.

conventions of a male spy:
  • buff
  • professional
  • womaniser
  • rich
  • effortless fighting
  • wins every time
  • attractive
  • young
  • masculine

In the poster for No Time To Die media language is used create meaning through mes-en-scene. Mes-en-scene is used in the women's costumes, the first woman at the top is wearing combat gear and has a gun, this isn't stereotypical as most bond women are portrayed as sexual objects or damsels in distress, this connotes progression in recent films. However, just below her is a woman in a more revealing dress, a party dress, yet she still has a gun, so even if the woman looks like stereotypical bond woman, she has connotations of being much more independent and strong. These women aren't portrayed as damsels in distress, they can protect themselves.

context :
  • several Aston Martins in film, on poster is the original
  • Dr Madeline swan is on the poster twice
  • Nomi being the new 007 was released to press so they interviewed her
  • as a result many racist trollers harassed her
  • she said "We (black women) know how it feels to be mis- and underrepresented and we know how it feels to yearn for someone, anyone in the world to speak our truth for us when we feel like we don't have a voice. And i'm hoping that my career and my choice in roles and me just being me, authentically, is shining a light on our power."
  • three guns in poster handled by women to seem less threatening as the ASA state violence shouldn't be glamorised.

stereotype:
  • action genre- male dominated
gender:
  • male- serious, formal, lack of emotion.
  • female- powerful, modest, varied.
age:
  • older- power, control, calm, serious.
  • younger- via all characters, controlled by JB.
sexuality:
  • not much in terms of identity- stereotypical.
  • but women are wearing slightly more sexual clothing.
ethnicity:
  • Nomi- first relevant ethnical character that isn't a villain.
